Ceramic Review - 1970 to 2020

Ceramic Review

Ceramic Review is the international magazine for ceramics, ceramic art and pottery. Presenting the latest news and views on ceramics globally, it is an invaluable resource for ceramic artists, potters, collectors, curators, students, and anyone with a passion for and interest in ceramics.

Published bi-monthly, Ceramic Review magazine arose out of the newsletter of the Craft Potters Association (CPA). Ceramic Review’s founding editors, Emmanuel Cooper and Eileen Lewenstein, proposed an outward-facing public journal. They wished to promote and further develop the outward-looking qualities of the CPA, and to respond to the ever-widening interest in studio pottery and ceramic art.

In February 1970, the first issue of Ceramic Review was published. Launched at a time of an expansionist mood in the discipline, the magazine aimed to present a complete picture of the work of studio potters within the world of ceramics as a whole.

It became, under Lewenstein and Cooper’s inspired joint editorship, a journal of critical intelligence with an increasingly sophisticated appearance, covering topics from the technical to the polemic. Over the years it has featured the work of established and aspiring makers and has become a respected publication within the pottery community. Relaunched in 2016, its circulation and reputation continues to grow.
